Lake Tahoe 2008 Wrap-UP

Mother Nature welcomed Drifters to Lake Tahoe with a blinding snow storm and 44 inches of freshly laid snow. The bus drive was amazing, taking 3-1/2 hours to arrive at our destination. Upon arrival, Mary Ann Bador found herself aiding the desk cleak, exchanging 2 bedroom condo's for 1 bedroom condo's, a result of a leaky roof responding to an overwhelming amount of snow. Snow covered all ground floor windows of the Forest Suites Resort and icicles streamed like frozen water falls from the roof to the ground.

Sunday morning, Heavenly Mountain was closed till noon allowing snow to be cleaned from the tops of all lifts. The available time was well spend watching the Super Bowl, what a great game that was. In the evening, we enjoyed a welcome party supplied with cheese and snacks. Some Drifters won prizes, the big winner was Sherman Lasara. During the rest of the week the weather was super including a number of sunny days. We skied 3 days at Heavenly, 1 day at Squaw Valley, and spent an appreciable amount of time in the hot tub. The hot tub was located between snow drifts waist high and it was there Drifters left their mark, Snow Angles. Applaud fellow Drifters: Mary Burnett for making us proud! All good thing must come to an end, and so it ws with this trip.

Thanks to Brenda Fraki for her assistance with our Wednesday night pizza party (helping with the menu) and Bill Fraki for his magic (waffles for breakfast). Mary Ann and I appreciated all the Drifters patience, understanding, and help with loading and unloading of all the baggage. A special thans to each and every Drifter for making this such an enjoyable experience for myself, Mary Ann, and fellow Drifters alike!

SNOWDRIFTER'S 2007, "INLAND WATERWAYS" CAMPOUT

SEPTEMBER 14-16 AT CAMP PET-O-SE-GA ON PICKEREL LAKE

(Summary)

Ten campers braved the driving winds & rain at the clubs Pickerel Lake weekend campout. While Friday night most campers spent huddled around their space heaters with some “Liquid Refreshment” to stay warm, Saturday gave us a little break in the weather. Breakfast was served, thanks to Pat Dennis, on the water front in cabin #3. Lots of coffee and Danish were devoured over a 3-hour period, thanks to Kent’s space heater, which turned out to be perfect for warming female toes. All agreed trying to schedule the annual Island Water Ways trip was not a good idea due to the 1-1 ½ foot average height of the white-caps rolling in off Pickerel Lake. So everybody piled into their cars and we headed off to Petoskey to catch the Michigan State football game at a local bar. Saturday evening the winds died, the skies cleared and the temperatures sunk to just above freezing, which wasn’t hardly even noticeable as long as you stayed within 3-4 feet of the campfire and had your own personal jug of, “White Lightening” close by. Sunday brought us sunnier weather, the routine of coffee and Danish, after which, most broke camp, but did agree it was a fun weekend, in spite of the weather.

Respectfully Submitted,

Kent Hodges, Larry Hall & Pat Dennis

November 13, 2007 Annual Fall Bike Ride

About 10 bikers gathered for the Bay City, 9.5 mile ride along the river. It was a sunny, windy day with nice scenery, good exercise and a great group of people geared for fun making this a great time.

More people arrived for the barbeque and dishes to pass. The food was great, as always, with plenty left over. The atmosphere, as you'd expect of the Snowdrifters, was friendly and conducive to relaxed chat with fellow drifters.
